Vaera from 2016

The prescience of this haiku is unnerving...

What is this strange dance?
The people reel and suffer
While one man decides.

Shemot from 2017

Shemot occurred twice in 2017, once in January and once in December. For the record, this haiku was written and published prior to the inauguration of President Donald Trump.  I was thinking about how despairing I was about his election and how so many of us pay much more attention to the world around us when there is distress and trouble, forgetting to mark the abundance and graciousness of the universe when times are less chaotic.  Little did I know how we would be longing for a "time of grace" so profoundly just two years later.

In times of distress
We cling to omens and signs...
And in times of grace?

Vayechi from 2012

Thinking about how and what we want to communicate when we know our conscious time with people is drawing to a close...  We can give blessings. Our loved ones can make promises. But, in the end, I believe it is all about going home, wherever and whatever that home may be.

Life draws to a close
With promises and blessings.
Now the journey home.
